1. Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Every year in February, one of the most famous carnivals in the world takes place in Sta Cruz des Tenerife. It features cloroful and white parades, elaborate costumes, music, dancing, and street parties.
2. Carnival of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
In February to March, another major carnival celebration with parades, contests, and street parties is celebrated on the next island, Gran Canaria. It also features a Drag Queen Gala, which has become an iconic part of the festivities.
3. Fiesta de la Rama:
A traditional celebration involving the beating of the sea with tree branches to invoke rain takes place in August in Agaete, Gran Canaria followed by colorful dances and music.
4. San Juan Bautista
A festival celebrating the summer solstice with bonfires, fireworks, and beach parties takes place in various locations across the islands, notably in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria around June 23-24.
5. Fiesta de la Virgen de los Reyes
A religious pilgrimage that takes place every four years in July on the smaller island of El Hierro to honor the patron saint of El Hierro.
